TAIPING: Like some people in Tamil Nadu who see a mother figure in their chief minister, Malaysians who are familiar with the social and political work of M Sarasvathy would not hesitate to call her Amma—if only she would consent to it.

It’s not that the 59-year-old co-founder and current Deputy President of Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) doesn’t feel a kinship with the public. She just hates being associated with J Jayalalithaa.

Former Sabah Chief Minister Harris Salleh did not mention then Sabah Foundation Director, Jeffrey Kitingan, when he pontificated sanctimoniously on the so-called missing RM 4 billion, among other issues, in a tirade against former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in recent days.

 

Harris was apparently taking offence at Mahathir's statement in Kota Kinabalu, at Universiti Malaysia Sabah last week that "Sabah would be the richest state soon in Malaysia in terms of natural resources".

Inaugural political debate resonates with Sabahans

PENAMPANG: Sabahans here heard their first ever political debate between opposing politicians in Sabah last night and returned home satisfied at the standards set by speakers Jeffrey Kitingan from the State Reform Party (STAR) and DAP’s Dr Edwin Bosi.

Dubbed the ‘great debate’, it was organised by the newly formed NGO Democracy Sabah or Desah, headed by former Suhakam vice-chairman Simon Sipaun.

Albert Polinoh, di sini menyuarakan kekesalannya di atas apa yang dipanggilnya kegagalan di pihak Jawatankuasa Sambutan dan Protokol Pesta Kaamatan tersebut kerana tidak memberikan penghormatan yang sepatutnya kepada Bumburing yang masih memegang kedudukan sebagai Ahli Parliment P. 170 Tuaran. Bumburing juga adalah bekas Timbalan Ketua Menteri dan Pengerusi Barisan Nasional Tuaran.

 

“Saya amat terkejut dan kecewa bila melihat ketika ketibaan Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred bersama Datin Seri Panglima Rubinah,” kata Albert. “Tiada satu pun alat-alat muzik tradisional yang dibunyikan ketika mereka masuk ke dewan.
