PM Anwar should love East Malaysians more, says Dr Kanul

By Dr Kanul Gindol, 21-8-2024
1. I agree, share and support fully the observations and view made by my colleagues Peter John Jaban and Francis Paul Siah of Sarawak on the PM Anwar Ibrahim's highly questionable act to bring in Gazan Palestinians to be treated in Malaysia.
2. While Anwar's humanitarian act on the Palestinians is commendable, and taken as politically correct by his henchmen in West Malaysia, many, especially from East Malaysia, see this as a little too much an affront here as per what our people have faced in assessing good health services in the long 60 years we are in the Federation.
3. It is not that we should love these injured Palestinians less, but we should love our own East Malaysians more.
4. As PM, you may send our army's Caribou or whatever transport planes over 16,000kms to fly the Palestinians in, but you must not forget some of us in Sabah were forced to use "kerbau" ambulance because of the undeveloped roads and health clinics here.
5. You may claim that some of the RM16 bilion spent in Sabah last year was to upgrade our schools and clinics, but that just spoke volumes of how the Federal Government has neglected Sabah and Sarawak for all these years !
6. Now state leaders in Borneo must also seek ways to help upgrade the health services for our rural communities, many are struggling in remote areas with still unasphalted roads and in bad shape.
7. Sabah government provided "flying doctor" service (doktor udara) through Yayasan Sabah for many years before. There is no reason why Sabah now could not spend some of its RM7 billion annual revenue to provide health services for our rural folks.

Thank you.

Charity begins at home, Anwar

PRESS STATEMENT
26th August 2024

Anwar No Life Beyond Harping On Palestinian . . .

Charity begins at home but Anwar more concerned about the plight of people in Palestine who need no aid from Malaysia!

PRESS STATEMENT . . . Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s recent remarks have exposed a troubling disconnect between his priorities and the needs of his own people. While charity is a noble pursuit, it must begin at home. Yet, Anwar seems more focused on the plight of Palestinians, a cause that, while important, does not require Malaysia’s intervention at the expense of our own national interests. By dismissing critics as "biadap" (rude), he has not only misjudged them but also done a disservice to those expressing genuine concerns.

No one in Sarawak or Sabah is against helping the Palestinians or questioning their need for medical assistance. Our fellow Sarawakians and Sabahans are merely being straightforward, fulfilling their duty to voice legitimate concerns and fears. This is a matter of freedom of expression—a right that should be respected, not suppressed.

It is also important to note that there are no refugee camps in Sarawak or Sabah. East Malaysians are neither anti-Islam nor anti-Palestinian. However, we demand that the federal government prioritize solving our own problems. Malaysia is currently facing significant challenges, and the welfare of Malaysians must come first.

Many Malaysians are also curious about the criteria used in selecting Palestinians for medical assistance. The lack of transparency in this process is deeply troubling. Thousands of Palestinians left behind in Gaza likely wonder why they didn’t make the grade. This issue has fueled negative voices in the media, which cannot be ignored. Furthermore, it is highly irresponsible for some of Anwar’s supporters to silence critics by suggesting that their concerns could incite racial tensions between Malays and Chinese. Such rhetoric is not only baseless but also dangerously divisive.

Prime Minister Anwar, your obsession with pleasing the Muslim world is leading Malaysia down a precarious path. This relentless focus on international issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, offers no tangible benefits to our nation’s economy and distracts from the urgent need to address poverty and suffering within Malaysia. The global refugee crisis has shown that even the wealthiest nations, including those in Europe and the United Kingdom, struggle to manage such burdens. Malaysia, with its own set of economic challenges, cannot afford to be dragged into a situation that these countries are barely handling.

Moreover, why are wealthy Muslim nations not stepping up to help their Palestinian brothers? Why should Malaysia bear a burden that more prosperous nations have sidestepped? Anwar must explain why even neighboring Egypt, with over 6,000 hospitals, has refused to treat Palestinian patients. It is high time that our government refocuses on the needs of Malaysians, addressing the pressing issues at home before becoming entangled in international problems that do nothing to improve the lives of our citizens.

Anyway, as mentioned, PH performance in the coming GE in Sabah and Sarawak will tell if the voices of the Borneon Territories on this issue are small.

Aktivis Daniel beri surat peringatan kepada majistret berhubung kes Peer Mohamad

                       Daniel John Jambun

                            Dr Kanul Gindol

Daniel adalah Presiden Yayasan Borneo's Plight in Malaysia, manakala Dr Kanul Pengerusi Inisiatif Gindol untuk Masyarakat Madani Borneo, dan Andrew pula dari Pembela Tanah Leluhur Sabah.
                   Andrew Ambrose @ Katama

Activist Daniel Issues a reminder Letter to Magistrate Regarding Peer Mohamad Case

By Jayden Lisandu, 18-8-2024
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah activist Daniel John Jambun today lodged a reminder letter to the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate concerning the request for a hearing in the case of an Indian immigrant who was appointed to the board of directors of Sawit Kinabalu, a Sabah state-owned company.

He stated that many are eager to know the outcome of the Peer Mohamad Kadir case, given that he currently holds a Malaysian identity card, is the Chairman of MIC Sabah, and is a director of a state company despite being clearly an Indian citizen, born in India and having grown up there before coming to Sabah and obtaining a Malaysian identity card.

Peer's citizenship is in question because when he testified as a witness at the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) in 2013, he admitted to being born in India and not in Kimanis, Sabah.

"Sabahans want to know what action Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor is taking regarding this matter which has been ongoing for so long. Why allow this situation to persist?," Daniel said today.

In June, Daniel, along with two other activists, Dr. Kanul Gindol and Andrew Ambrose, urged the Sabah Chief Minister to disclose the results of the investigation he announced in 2022 regarding how a foreign immigrant was appointed as a director of Sawit Kinabalu.

Daniel is the President of the Borneo's Plight in Malaysia Foundation, Dr. Kanul is the Chairman of the Gindol Initiative for a Civil Society in Borneo, and Andrew is from the Sabah Indigenous Land Defenders.

Peer is alleged to have received his Malaysian identity card six years after arriving in Sabah from India in 1984. Peer, in his own admission, was born in Chennai, India.

However, his Malaysian identity card states he was born in Sabah, specifically in Kg Bambangan, Kimanis.

Daniel had previously stated, “Hajiji promised in 2022 to investigate this matter but has deliberately forgotten it, hoping the public would also forget.” Peer’s name is still listed as a director of the company to this day.

Andrew, on the other hand, demands that the state government be transparent about the findings and disclose them to the public.

“Peer should explain how he obtained his MyKad. Regardless of his political status, principles of accountability and transparency must be upheld.

“The public has the right to know the truth, and such transparency will help restore public trust in the country’s citizenship and immigration processes,” Andrew said, while also urging the implementation of the Sabah IC Plan to enable the state to manage its population.

Dr. Kanul, in June, expressed his hope that Sabah leaders would not turn a blind eye to Peer’s case.

“I do not want to believe that both the state and federal governments are blind or have become incapacitated in addressing this Peer case,” he said at that time.

Previously, a leader from the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), who is also the political secretary to the Sabah Chief Minister, Jamain Sarudin, had called on the Sabah government to reveal the results of the investigation into Peer.

According to Daniel, he decided to issue a reminder to the magistrate because the case involves public interest and the sovereignty of Sabah.#

Dr Edwin Bosi, bekas ADUN Kepayan, sertai Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri

Presiden Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri, Datuk Henrynus Amin (kiri) menerima borang permohonan ahli dari Dr Edwin Bosi.

13-8-2024

NO WAY! says activist Daniel on billionaire Vincent's suggestion for PR status to stateless people in Sabah

                      Daniel John Jambun

By Daniel John Jambun, 13-8-2024
KOTA KINABALU: The plight of the stateless that needs addressing isn't about those born overseas but in Malaysia among the Orang Asal (original people). These unfortunate people, Sabahan and Malaysian, in every way, have been deprived of birth certificates even under the late registration category via the Mobile Court.

That keeps a large number of people out of the electoral rolls and raises questions on the legitimacy of government.

The Court ruled that the Constitution does not allow for statelessness.

There was case law not so long ago, by the Federal Court, on statelessness in the country.

Those deemed stateless were advised that they could seek confirmation on their status from the old country and approach the Federal Court for resolution.

The stateless, among the Orang Asal, have no old country like the foreigners in Sabah.

Billionaire Tan Sri Vincent Tan didn't mention the plight of the Orang Asal and the Pala'u along the east coast facing eviction in the Sabah Parks area. The authorities, in fact, have discretion on accepting applications for waiver/exemption, based on special circumstances, from those affected.

It's the crying cat that gets the milk.

https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/08/1089997/vincent-tan-calls-humanitarian-approaches-help-stateless-children

Tan may have been out of the depths when he pontificated sanctimoniously on humanitarian considerations and, in the same breath, the plight of the stateless in Sabah in the form of the PTI (pendatang tanpa izin or illegal immigrants).

It's not clear why Tan, out of the blue, suddenly came looking for trouble in Borneo Territory, which has more than a fair share of misfortune since Malaysia Day on 16 September 1963.

If Tan became obsessed with Sabah, it may arise from the fact that bosom pal  and dictatorial former Prime Minister Mahathir Muhammad  has been linked with the notorious Projek IC Mahathir. The 2013 RCI (Royal Commission of Inquiry) on Projek IC Mahathir and PTI refer.

Projek IC Mahathir, for those unfamiliar, entered foreigners born outside Sabah in the electoral rolls with allegedly fraudulent documents. The result has been a  loss of sovereignty. If the JPN (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara or National Registration Dept) was linked online with the EC (Election Commission), the fraudulent voters in the electoral rolls will be automatically purged from the system.

Sabah MIC Chief Peer Mohd -- see link -- may be the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

The PTI in Sabah must exit before Parliament can grant Amnesty,  which facilitates Special Pass and/or IMM13 Pass. There can be no PR for all eternity for PTI in Sabah.

KENYATAAN AKHBAR

https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/08/1089997/vincent-tan-calls-humanitarian-approaches-help-stateless-children

1. Saya menerima laporan semalam ada penguatkuasaan merobohkan beberapa rumah milikan mungkin 16 keluarga Murut di Kg Ria, Keningau.
Kes roboh rumah di Kg Ria, Keningau.

7. Hanya jika ruang itu betul-betul perlu diguna segera dan tiada lagi ruang lain, barulah laksana penguatkuasaan kejam meroboh rumah orang, dengan memberi mereka notis mengenai tujuan perobohan.
8. Janganlah angkuh berkata "majlis daerah berhak".
11. Jika ingatan saya tidak salah, lebih 20 tahun lampau pihak berkuasa hutan membakar dan meroboh rumah-rumah orang Dusun di Kg Tangkarason, Paitan, malah meracun pokok getah mereka hanya kerana penduduk kampung dikatakan memasuki Hutan Simpan kelas IV jika saya tak silap.

"Momogun"? Another new name for the KDMR ? Oh come on

We received many calls to do a write up on the so-called "Momogun" being promoted by some politicians especially from Upko and understandably the Momogun National Congress (MNC) which is currently headed by an Upko veteran. Here is one statement by Mr Cleftus Spine Mojingol on the subject.. Editor

Press Statement by
Mr Cleftus Spine Mojingol
President
Pertubuhan Kebudayaan Rumpun Dayak Sabah (PKRDS)
Penampang, July 31, 2024

*NON INCLUSIVE EFFORT TO INTRODUCE YET ANOTHER GENERIC TERM FOR INDIGENOUS GROUPS IN SABAH WILL ONLY FURTHER DISUNITE THE KDMR*

1. Tomorrow's special convention on the term "Momogun" in Penampang will either unite our KDMR people or further disunite them.
2. When they adopt the term "Momogun" as generic name for all the Kadazandusun, Dusun, Murut, Sungai, Rungus, Tambanuo, Lundayeh and so on, and to propose it to the Federal Government to replace the "Lain-lain" in government forms, they better think twice.
3. Is the organiser of the convention keen on helping the government device a nicer form, or is it trying to create an entirely new generic term for all these Sabah indigenous?
4. I think government forms can be flexible. They may just put there two groupings : Bumiputera or Non-Bumiputera. For other purpose the form may offer more choices of Bangsa in it : Malay, Chinese, Indian, Dayak and let say Momogun.
5. Other times where the purpose is to be more inclusive, they may put there as many boxes to tick : Melayu, Cina, India, Bumiputera Sabah, Bumiputera Sarawak.
6. They may even put as many ethnic groups for you to choose from : Melayu, Cina, India, Iban, Kadazandusun, Murut, Bajau, Suluk and so forth. No issue about too many bangsa. The font sizes can be made very small so not to take too much space in the form.
7. But when you try to introduce a certain word or term to represent many indigenous groups, we should really study, refine and get a genuine consensus on it, rather than making up the participants as if they represent all the indigenous peoples here in Sabah.
8. "Momogun" no doubt sounds good but what does it really mean? I can say the Bajaus and Suluks are the "momogun" in Semporna or certain islands and places or "pomogunan", likewise the the Dusuns are the "Momogun" in Tambunan or Ranau, for "momogun" means people who have been dwelling or living in certain places or "pomogunan".
9. You can be the "momogun" here to mean indigenous but you may or may not be well-accepted to claim you are the "momogun" in Pontianak, Kalimantan. Maybe you are "momogun" from Sabah. They may tell you you are "Dayak" there. If a Dayak from Kalimantan comes here in Sabah, he or she is still a Dayak even if he/she is "momogun-mogun" in Kota Belud.
10. What i mean is "momogun" is not as inclusive or effective as it is being promoted, unlike the term "Dayak" which is recognised throughout Borneo and even by the earlier colonial powers who understood it to cover all the indigenous natives of the whole of Borneo, including the Dusuns or Witu in Kalimantan, which also actually may include many of the natives here in Sabah.
11. I am positive our Muruts and Lundayeh living near the border of Sarawak and Indonesia proudly identify themselves as Dayak too, when they communicate with our Dayak neighbours.
12. Having said this, even if Dayak is our collective common race, every tribe can still identify their roots, like being a Dayak Tindal, Dayak Tangaa, Dayak Rungus, Dayak Tombonuo and so on. Dayak, to me, is a strength, it unifies all natives not only in Sabah but the whole of Borneo. It unites the Borneo natives as a nation. Even Indonesia call Borneo either Pulau Kalimantan or Pulau Dayak. Sarawak wholeheartedly embraced Dayak. Why Sabah keep on searching for  new name?
13. It is only rightful for us to belong to a larger community of Dayaks. After all we do share many similarities in our culture, customary and lifestyle.
14. I am very concerned about the unity of our tribes in Sabah who are already very divided. It is unfortunate for us that we abandoned the term Kadazan as unifying us, to be the umbrella term of all the Dusunic, Murutic and Paitanic tribes. I dont want our young generation to get more confused by our divided politicians, and that they will become uninterested in their identity.

Thank you.

Malays are not suited to govern Malaysia, writes Zaid

By Zaid Ibrahim, 30-7-2024
IT is pretty clear that the Malays are not suited to govern the country.

Look at Pas, who is threatening to sever working with Gerakan because the beer company donated money to Chinese schools. Imagine a Malay party prepared to abandon a working relationship with the Chinese, which would bring stability and prosperity because of beer. No one is asking Pas to drink beer. A picture of Tiger beer on a mock cheque offends them.

Look at another Malay group, PKR and Umno. The Umno leader has stated that all media platforms must be licensed by 2025.

Censorship and further curtailment of free speech are the main agenda of this Malay party. They are not interested in transparency or truth. They want to censor you.

They are thin-skinned, unable to withstand criticism and verbal abuse from citizens, and they need to ring-fence the leaders' incompetency from cyber bullies.

But it's okay for them to bully opposition MPs by suspending them or choking them with no development funds so they could force the MPs who were broke to jump ship to support the government. This pernicious bullying is okay and encouraged.

The Malay leaders would not be like what we have today if only Lee Kuan Yew was not removed and Singapore remained part of Malaysia. The class that Singapore leaders have would have rubbed us in a positive way.

Malaysia would have a cosmopolitan leadership from a well-educated class whose rise to power was selected based on ability and merit. The leaders will not need to pander to baser instincts or exhibit extreme behaviour to show commitment to a particular cause or to please their followers.

In short, we would be a developed country by now because we would have a system of selecting leaders that meet the needs of the time. In short, they are not afraid of beer and the Internet.#

Malaysia should take a leaf out of UK on woman's representation, says Dr Julia Ongkili

                       Dr Julia Emelda Ongkili

18-7-2024
KOTA KINABALU : Malaysia, in particular Sabah, should aspire to increase women's representation in the legislative assemby and cabinet line up, said Sabah acting chair of the Parti Sedar Rakyat.

Dr Julia Emelda Ongkili said the country could emulate the new United Kingdom's PM Keir Starmer's act where he appointed a record number of female ministers in the UK cabinet.

"There are 11 female ministers out of the 23-member cabinet in the UK after their recent general election.

"The Deputy PM of UK is female and for the first time a female has been appointed as Finance Minister or Exchequer," she pointed out, referring to Angela Rayner and Rachel Reeves in their respective posts.

She further said: "Now forty percent of the UK's MPs or members of the House of Commons are female. To me this is inspiring."

"Our own electorates here have something to think and consider when our own general election comes," said Dr Julia in an interview with Borneo Herald here recently.

She said it was upsetting to see many political parties in Malaysia for a long time stated their intention to increase the numbers of women to 30% as per party's candidacy, but it remained just intention without serious action.

"Many women are as capable as men in almost all fields and this is particularly in leadership. In some areas, some women, could be more trustworthy than our average politicians.

"I am calling upon parties and leaders to trust our women and help pave way for them to come up to the forefront when the opportunities come," she said, adding that potential women also must be brave to offer themselves to lead.

Dr Julia also said that given an opportunity, capable women could really shine and make contribution to the country.

"Just look at one time Malaysia had Datuk Rafidah Aziz as International Trade minister. To me she really shined and did a great job.

"Closer to home in Sabah, during PBS rule, we had Datuk Ariah Tengku Ahmad as one of the deputy chief ministers. We should re-visit such an opportunity.

"Another well-liked female leader we once had in Sabah was Toh Puan Rahimah Stephens, a Kiulu BERJAYA assemblywoman from 1979 till 1985, and a state minister, who also inspired more women to get active in political leadership," she added.#
