Choose New Speaker on Merits Not Necessarily from Umno

Kota Kinabalu     “The Sabah Speaker plays a very important role under the Westminster system of government.  Its sudden vacancy offers an opportunity for the State Legislative Assembly to appoint the new Speaker based on merits and certain required criteria” said Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, commenting on the availability of the post due to the not unexpected appointed of the previous Speaker as a federal Minister in the Cabinet reshuffle.

Malaysia’s mess is Mahathir-made

At least embattled Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak is right about one thing. The current mess in Malaysian politics is the making of his greatest nemesis, Mahathir Mohamad, who led the Southeast Asian nation with an iron fist from 1981–2003. GPS had noted with sadness that although both BN and PR MPS have voiced support for Tan Sri Pandekar’s initiative for parliamentary reforms, none of their proposals had addressed the injustice faced by Sabah and Sarawak in the present Federal Parliament.
