The incident that changed Sabah
Rebel priest, Benjamin Basintal, who stood up for social justice once blogged: 'Let us fix a collapsing Malaysia once and for all and let's begin now.' |
KOTA KINABALU: Benjamin Basintal died last month. Few will remember that name unless they happened to live in Sabah in 1990.
It was perhaps typical that the daily newspapers with their jingoisms and fawning, sloppy journalism ignored the death of the former Catholic priest-turned-teacher from organ failure at the age of 59.
A bit odd because Benjamin, then a young priest, was the man at the centre of a curious event that was credited and blamed, depending on which side you are on, for the near landslide victory of the opposition Parti Bersatu Sabah government in the 1990 elections.
This was before the state was perversely opened to hundreds of thousands of immigrants, especially Muslims, who were swiftly granted citizenship in an alleged scheme to re-engineer the Christian-majority state into the Muslim one which it has since become.
Give Proof of Killing of 35 Gunment - Jeffrey
KOTA KINABALU: STAR has challenged caretaker Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Zahid Hamidi to give proof that 35 terrorists have been killed by the Philippines security forces in Sibutu Island on nomination day.
STAR's State chairman, Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan said in a statement here that the denial by the Philippines that such a thing ever happened raises a lot of doubts in the minds of Malaysian people about the veracity of Zahid's claim.
"He seems to be quoting only Malaysian sources there is no corroborating evidence from any outside sources," Jeffrey said.

There is need to increase Christian reps, says Kanul
Kanul Gindol, contesting in Kota Belud parliamentary under BEBAS platform with a key as it symbol. |
By Ezra Haganez
KOTA BELUD : There is a need to increase the number of Christian parliamentarians as the group was currently under-represented, claimed an independent candidate for the Kota Belud parliamentary seat here.
Kanul Gindol, 47, said there could well be less than 10 percent Christian MPs in Malaysia's Parliament, thus this had helped put Christians here vulnerable to exploitations and bullying by the larger blocks.
"A huge majority of the total 222 parliamentary seats in Parliament are already occupied by Muslim MPs as well as the Chinese leaders.

Minister playing politics with security matters
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Yong Teck Lee said it is irresponsible on the part of the Defence Minister who is trying to play politics with security matters.
He said, the minister is neither here nor there in making the allegations of the three opposition leaders involved in the Lahad Datu intrusion.
The government should take immediate action as it involves national security.

Petronas; Dr. M & Umno’s Cave Of Gold
When Dr M, the ex-Prime
Minister’s son Mirzan was in financial trouble with his shipping
company, Konsortium Perkapalan Berhad, Dr M asked Anwar(Finance Minister
that time) to instruct Petronas via MISC to help him. However, Mirzan
wanted a higher valuation price, therefore MISC had a problem. The Late
Dato Yassin, MISC Managing Director, told straight to Mirzan face, "Awak ingat MISC bapak awak punya company". And Mirzan reported to his father.
MISC was only willing to pay RM 950 million but Mirzan insisted RM1.3 billion in order to cover his cost. Anwar finally agreed to his request after Hasan Merican told Anwar, “Jangan cari pasal, dia anak Boss. Anyway, MISC is not your company”.

Like Anwar, Najib is ignorant about Sabah's autonomy - STAR
PUTATAN: The assurance by the Prime Minister that Sabah's autonomy is a non-issue because its provision is still intact "under the 20-Points of the Malaysia Agreement" is unacceptable because it misses the whole point about Sabah's autonomy, said State Reform Party (STAR).
STAR's State deputy chairman, Awang Ahmad Sah, who is contesting for the Putatan parliamentary constituency under the STAR's ticket, said in statement here that the Prime Minister seems to be as ignorant as PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim on the matter of Sabah's autonomy.

Federal Interference Hampering Sabah's Autonomy - STAR
KOTA KINABALU: State Reform Party (STAR) is adamant that Sabah is in a lot of mess and its development stunted because of federal interference.
Its Sabah Deputy Chairman, Daniel John Jambun said this to refute the claim by the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman who said that Sabah is fully governed by the State Cabinet without any federal interference.
