Kota Kinabalu: “Batu Sumpah belongs to the rakyat specifically created in the Interior as a commitment of loyalty to Malaysia in terturn for the assurance that the Federal Government will honour religious freedom (no official religion), land, forest and natural resources belongs to Sabah and the native customs, adat and traditions will be safeguarded.
“The Batu Sumpah does not belong to the government and therefor the government have no right to prevent anybody to visit and pay respect to the Monument” said Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, who was unhappy that the District Office has denied their request to visit the Batu Sumpah on Malaysia Day.
Dr. Jeffrey, who is also the Bingkor Wakil Rakyat, accuse the District Officer of playing politics and said that it is unbecoming of a civil servant to deny such visit, particularly on Malaysia Day, referring to the District Office rejecting via a letter dated 9th September, a visit request by the Bingkor Assemblyman on Malaysia Day 2014.
“Who is he to deny such a visit? The Batu Sumpah belongs to the people” asked Dr. Jeffrey.
It is located in the Bingkor constituency.
“I have never had any problem with past District Officers, who have always given their cooperation” added Dr. Jeffrey.
“I will give him 24 hours before I consider bringing the matter into the next level of action” he warned.
