BERSIH Sabah also underlines its full support to of the demand for clean and fair elections pursued by this coming rally. A strong turnout of Malaysians on this coming Saturday will send a strong message to the federal government that free and fair elections will be the number one issue in the 13th general elections.
Beyond rallies, clean and fair elections requires high turnout and extensive monitoring of elections. Thus, BERSIH 2.0 calls upon all Malaysians to fully support its twin programmes: "Keluar Mengundi, Lawan Penipuan” for 100% voter turnout and the newly launched PEMANTAU (“Pemantau Pilihanraya Rakyat”) for citizen-led election monitoring.
ReplyDeleteini kali lah
ReplyDeleteUBAH!!!!!!!!
Sabah nak perlu nak ikut2 behimpun.
ReplyDeletePrime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the smooth running of the rally organised by the opposition in the city y was testimony of the effectiveness of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteIn fact, he said it had proven the ability of all parties whether the authorities or organisers to heed the provisions and spirit of the Act.
ReplyDelete"In short, what happened shows the reforms we undertook in this direction were right.
ReplyDelete"I thank the opposition although I did not agree with them (on the rally) for respecting the spirit of the Act," he said when opening the "Transformation of Security and Fundamental Rights Legislation, Rights and Responsibilities: Between Hope and Challenges" conference.
ReplyDeleteSome 45,000 people from opposition parties and non-governmental organisations attended the rally that was held at the Merdeka Stadium here.
Najib said the Government was always committed to creating a legal environment that better supported human rights and towards this end, had abolished laws that had given rise to polemics, such as the Internal Security Act 1960, Banishment Act 1959 and the Restricted Residence Act 1933 while the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 and Section 27 of the Police Act 1967 had been amended.

ReplyDeleteHe said this showed the Government's seriousness about the interests and rights of the people and was always open to each and every proposal and recommendation in order to make society more progressive.
ReplyDelete"The Government is also aware that laws on civil liberties and national security should be suited to the process and practice of democracy not only in line with international norms but also rooted in our cultural values ?
"The introduction of new legislation and improvements to existing laws better reflects our desire to create a society and nation that is more mature, more progressive and more open. That is the objective that we will jointly endeavour to achieve," he said.

ReplyDeleteIn addition to promulgating the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, the government had also pledged to fully review the Sedition Act of 1948 to be replaced with the National Harmony Act aimed at creating a mechanism to protect freedom of expression without jeopardising peace and national security.
ReplyDeleteAt the same time, the prime minister stressed that the government's action to amend, repeal and amend the laws was not for political expediency but in meeting the aspirations of the people.
He said in order to determine the country does not experience chaos, the onus lay in the leaders, legislators and the community at large to always ensure civil rights and liberties were protected but at the the same time, balance the interests of society overall. "We did because we were confident and believed it was the right thing to do," he said.
ReplyDeleteThe three-day conference organised by the Attorney-General's Chambers, Razak School of Goverment (RSOG) and Institut Terjemahan dan Buku Malaysia (ITBM) among others aims to provide additional clarification on law reform in Malaysia.
