KOTA KINABALU : Six Sabahans, including leaders from Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and PAS, have filed a suit against Petronas and the Sabah state government at the High Court here, seeking to declare the 1976 agreement between Petronas and Sabah state government null and void.
The group of six, calling themselves Royalty for Sabah, are Zainal Ajamain, Michael Peter Givind, PAS leaders Lahirul Latigu, Mohd Julpikar Ab Mijan, and SAPP's Dullie Mari and Joseph Wilfred Lakai.
Zainal was co-founder of the United Borneo Front (UBF) but soon together with Govind, parted way with another UBF founder Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.KOTA KINABALU : Six Sabahans, including leaders from Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and PAS, have filed a suit against Petronas and the Sabah state government at the High Court here, seeking to declare the 1976 agreement between Petronas and Sabah state government null and void.
The group of six, calling themselves Royalty for Sabah, are Zainal Ajamain, Michael Peter Givind, PAS leaders Lahirul Latigu, Mohd Julpikar Ab Mijan, and SAPP's Dullie Mari and Joseph Wilfred Lakai.
The writ of summon was filed by their lawyer Marcel Jude at the High Court registry.
Zainal in their joint statement said it is illegal for the Federal government to take Sabah's oil which should be belong 100% to the people of Sabah. "The Malaysia Agreement 1963 is very clear on this,” claimed Zainal who is an economist.
The group's summon is contending that the 1976 agreement is in conflict with the Federal Constitution, which for the last 37 years successive state governments had failed to address.
"Recently, both the state government and the opposition have promised that the issue of oil royalty to Sabah is high on their agenda, but actually both have no right to determine the quantum for Sabah.
"100% of the oil belongs to the people in Sabah, it should be given back to them and let them decide as to how much should be given to the Federal government, whoever it may be,” the group said.
They also claimed that their action is in line with the recent statement by PAS President, Hadi Awang, in Tuaran recently who said that “in Islamic concept of governance, the wealth of a region shall be used to alleviate the problem of the people of the region first before it can be brought out of it".
According to Zainal, similar suit will be filed by groups in another three oil-producing states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman has attributed the success of the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) to a strong team in the civil service. The GTP and ETP achieved success because all of us worked together as a strong team to ensure that whatever programmes that ahad been planned and implemented are realised, and this has been proven. He was asked to comment on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s announcement that all 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) have either exceeded or met last year’s target. The Chief Minister congratulate the Prime Minister for announcing the GTP and ETP results, which show that with political will the Barisan Nasional government can carry out its promise to the people.
ReplyDeleteHe said the results showed development in the urban and rural areas and enhancing the people’s income; not to mention a lot of improvement and progress in terms of reducing crime rate. The crime index rate for the City for the first four months of the year is lower compared to the same period last year.City Hall (DBKK) director general Datuk Yeo Boon Hai said the crime index rate from January to April 21 registered 576 cases as compared to 834 cases during the same period in 2011.That’s a big decrease – a total of 258 cases or 31 per cent.Yeo said efforts to make the City even safer would continue with various projects through the Safe City Programme.
DeletePetronas contribute a great economy growth to Sabah too..
DeleteThis year, DBKK would be allocated a total of RM1 million from the Home Ministry to implement the projects.Among them would be to brighten up the Old KK area and the separation of pedestrian walkways and roads / streets along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (from Bandaran Berjaya to Karamunsing), along Jalan Tun Abdul Razak (from Hotel Horizon to City Park) and from Sacred Heart Cathedral to SK Sacred Heart. Other projects would be to provide safety mirrors, reminder signboards and so on.Meanwhile, the Police would continue to cooperate with DBKK to ensure the success of the Safe City Programme. The Police would continue to provide constant patrol to ensure the City is safe.
ReplyDeleteSo this is the result of the BN efforts with determination coupled with work togetherness to continue maintaining work efficiently, with sincerity and integrity: whatever programmes we plan and implement will achieve results as aspired by the Prime Minister. As such, the Chief Minister urged the civil service to keep on working hard to make sure the development programmes continue to benefit the people.
ReplyDeleteHe also asked all civil servants in Sabah and federal agencies to enhance their efforts in serving the people in line with the 1Malaysia slogan of ‘People First, Performance Now’.The Barisan Nasional (BN) government is driven by commitment and initiative to continue to bring prosperity to the people.
ReplyDeleteAll of this are not done with the wave of the magic wand. What BN do have are commitment, policies and programmes. These programmes are planned not for a year or two but for five to 10 years.Assets are gathered and put in the effort to derive more revenue so that the people, even in the rural areas, can enjoy development. The BN responsibility does not rest there. They want the development to continue, to achieve Vision 2020 (of becoming a developed country). The government worked hard to resolve the people’s problems at all times and not just on the eve of elections. The people in Sabah should not have any doubt about development because the federal government would not marginalise the state which had seen much development under Chief Minister Musa’s administration.
ReplyDeleteSi Anon in terang-terang buta. Ini pasal soal hakmilik minyak Sabah bukan pembangunan. Tu minyak kepunyaan Sabah bukan diurang punya.
Deletesalahkan harris kerana tandatangan perjanjian tu.
DeleteTAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY!
ReplyDeleteSabah 1976 tiada sudah, sekarang Sabah 2012.
ReplyDeleteSabah 2012 kini sudah jadi SABAH DARUL PTI.
Hidup Umno.
Deletebersama kita banteras PATI.
DeleteIsu PATI memang merunsingkan.
DeleteMacam lucu. hhmm, all the best sajalah:)
ReplyDeleteBaru kena file pun takda yang interesting sangat. Tunggu sajlaah apa kata court nanti.
ReplyDeletesebaiknya bialah mahkamah yang tentukan pekara ini.
DeleteIsu royalti makin hangat diperkatakan pula, menatng2 lah dekat PRU.
ReplyDeleteya, isu minyak ni sering dimainkan, harap ianya tidak dipolitikkan.
DeleteSabah deserve a better royalty rate.

ReplyDeleteIf the opposition wants to capitalise on this move by Lajim and Bumburing, the oppositio must work together
ReplyDeletePBS Vice President Herbert says Jeffrey is a desperate politician who will say anything to get what he wants. He claims that Jeffrey once joined UMNO by using a lesser known name of "Gapari"
ReplyDeleteIf indeed Dr Jeffrey is smart and educated, Herbert asked why he couldn't form his own party but seek shelter inside a Sarawakian hut (Star)
DeleteJK forgotten that sometime ago he had applied to be an Umno member using an unfamiliar name of 'Gapari' and in fact received membership in Umno
DeleteSabahans will not gamble their future on opposition parties.
