KOTA MARUDU : One branch of UPKO in Kampung Lampada, Kota Marudu, was claimed to have been dissolved with its members quitting en masse to join State Reform Party (STAR).
The branch leader, Taimin Kanur, had quit UPKO, a key component party of Barisan Nasional, together with 50 other members.
They handed over their application forms to join STAR to its state chairman, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan during a meet-the-people session in Lampada here recently. About 500 people turned up at the function.
A prominent local businessman, Majamis Timbong @ Mohd Jeffry also handed in his form to join STAR.
Dr Jeffrey in welcoming them said it is a strong sign yet that STAR and its seven-point Borneo Agenda have been accepted warmly by the people who want change in the government.
"There will be more who want to quit BN to support STAR...: he said adding that they are doing so because they have realised the UMNO-led government has been hoodwinking Sabahans all these years.
