KUALA LUMPUR: The police have set up a special team under the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman to investigate a sex video said to involve an opposition politician.
Bukit Aman police secretary Ghazali Md Amin said the police would conduct the investigation on the principle of professionalism as a competent agency.
The police have classified the case under Section 292 of the Penal Code pertaining to distribution of pornographic material.
“As of today, the police have recorded statements from certain witnesses,” he said in a statement.
The investigation is into the screening of a sex video clip to selected journalists at the Carcosa Seri Negara Hotel here on Monday.
It comes in the wake of a police report lodged by Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday after he had denied being the man allegedly resembling him in the video clip.
Meanwhile, former Malacca chief minister Rahim Tamby Chik, one of three people who revealed a sex video said to involve an opposition politician, is prepared to give a statement to the police if necessary, his special officer Ghazali Zainal said today.
Ghazali said that Rahim had yet to be called by the police on the matter.
He said Rahim declined to comment further on the matter after he had spoken to the media yesterday, along with businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Shuib Lazim, treasurer of the Malay right-wing group, Perkasa.
The trio, who called themselves “Datuk T”, had screened the video for selected journalists on Monday at the Carcosa Seri Negara Hotel here.
On Tuesday, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters after he had denied a day earlier that he was the man alleged to be in the sex video.

Rahim said he handed over the original recording to the police after being questioned about it for some five hours at the Federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman here today.
Speaking to reporters after the interview session, Rahim said he also handed over an Omega watch reported to belong the opposition figure concerned that was taken from the hotel room where the sex act took place.
Shazryl was also questioned by the police.
