Is Jeffrey toying with PKR?

KOTA KINABALU: Annoyed PKR leaders may push to end former party vice-president Jeffrey Kitingan's “flirtatious” way when they meet tomorrow.

Sources said party leaders who are scheduled to meet in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow “might be tempted” to end Jeffrey's career in PKR.

"Some senior leaders of PKR are mulling the idea of sacking Jeffrey in the same way it asked Zaid Ibrahim to leave when the latter said he was giving the party a month's notice of his resignation," the source said.

At that time, PKR secretary-general Saifudin Nasution Ismail had said that Zaid could leave immediately instead of Dec 16 and issued a letter stating he was no longer a member of the party.

"Jeffrey may get the same treatment since he has signalled his disatisfaction with the way PKR has been dealing with Sabah and Sarawak," said the source.

Yesterday, the maverick politician announced the formation of a movement, United Borneo Front (UBF), without the consent of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim. He also dodged questions about whether he will quit PKR.

Jeffrey had said the UBF would now be his main platform to pursue his Borneo agenda along with another body called CigMa (Common Interest Group Malaysia), which is already working with other NGOs including Hindraf, from which Anwar has distanced himself.

Anwar is said to be in constant communication with several PKR leaders in Sabah and Sarawak, gauging what needs to be done on the latest developments and also to decide who should lead the party in both states.

According to sources, Jeffrey, who said he was ready to work with any group besides PKR and Pakatan Rakyat, may also formally cut his ties with the party ahead of a PKR political bureau meeting.
