An Alternative Paradigm for Change and Reform

by Malik Imtiaz Sarvar

I do not think I am alone in feeling that this country is in need of a serious overhaul. Sweeping reform, of a nature far deeper than the superficial changes conceived by consultants to seduce voters, is critical to our continued survival. If voter sentiment at the last general election is any indication, I think I am similarly not alone in believing that a change of government is in order.

I am guided to this conclusion not by dint of any admiration for those currently in Pakatan Rakyat(PR). Although admitted, there are individuals among them for whom I have a great deal of respect; this in itself is not a reason for change. The matter is addressed rather by reference to the seeming inability of Barisan Nasional (BN) at the present time to form the kind of government this country needs.

It is not very difficult to prove this proposition: the BN is held by its component parties and their members, in particular UMNO. In as much as some within the BN may wish to push the envelope on reform, they are subject to those who shape influence with these parties.

One Hole behind

A guy was playing golf one day and he got lost. He saw a lady up
ahead of  him and went to her and said, "Can you please help me, I don't
know what hole I'm on." She told him "You are one hole behind me. I'm on 7;
you're on 6."  He thanked her and continued playing golf.

Later he got lost again. He saw the same lady and went to her again
kind of embarrassed. "I'm sorry to bother you again but I'm lost again, can
you please tell me what hole I'm on." She told him "you are one hole behind
me. I'm on 14; you are on 13."

Again he thanked her and continued playing golf. when he finished he
saw her in the clubhouse. He went up to her and asked if he could buy her a
drink for helping him out. She accepted.

Other ethnics in Sabah need "champions", says SUHAKAM Commissioner

By Ezra Haganez
KOTA KINABALU:
Human Rights Commission of Malaysia or SUHAKAM is of the opinion that other native groups in Sabah, other than the Kadazandusuns, really need to have their own "champions" if they are to upgrade their language to become one of the subjects in schools and colleges.

SUHAKAM Commissioner, Jannie Lasimbang, said this at the SUHAKAM's one-day Workshop on Education for Natives at a hotel here today.

"Other native ethnic groups need to have 'champions' from their own respective communities to bring up the issues of their language to be taught in schools and universities," she said.

She was giving example where the Kadazandusuns language being championed by culturalists in KDCA (Kadazanusun Cultural Association), politicians, and pioneers of NGOs like PACOS Trust and the Kadazandusun Language Foundation (KLF).

Why the Jeffrey agenda will work

Why the Jeffrey agenda will work

By Raymond Tombung
SIDEVIEW, Borneo Post, 28 Nov, 2010

THERE IS no denying that a new election fever has taken root, what with leaders talking about preparing for the apparently imminent GE13, denying it, and then speaking of issues in terms of how they will all affect performances in the GE13. And there is already speculation that the GE13 will be next year, perhaps in April or July. This theory has gained currency since the BN victories with the Batu Sapi and Galas by-elections and later reinforced by the turmoil in PKR. Then, the idea of the Third Force under Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, raising the likelihood of the opposition splitting their votes further, gave BN more confidence to win the GE13 with higher margin, even maybe to regain its two-third ma-jority in Parliament. Some observers, however believe BN shouldn’t be unduly swayed by overzealous news carriers saying that it’s time for general elections because the recent by-election victories in Galas and Batu Sapi may not be true reflections of the people’s current sentiment.

PKR’s Dr. Syed Hussein Ali used his speech at the seventh Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Wanita and Youth congress on Friday to warn that the Third Force could prevent the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) from achieving a huge victory in the next general elections – a clear admittance of the seriousness and potential strength of the Third Force which is now in the process of solidifying into a formal entity. But Syed Hussein’s warning may not be necessarily valid because they are other possible outcomes from the current problems.  PKR may lose its lustre and appeal, which is not impossible because this is already happening to PKR Sabah and Sa-rawak! And at the national level, PKR appears to have inadvertently exposed the seeds of its own destruction! Note that if such a fate will indeed befall the whole of PKR, it will have a very serious effect on the morale of the PR. Its other components, DAP and PAS may leave to join the Third Force. If that happens, the Third Force, initially with Datuk Zaid Ibrahim and Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, will become the Second Force, with PKR way behind as a small and no longer significant force!

Jokes for the day

Two guys sneak into a farmer's fruit garden and start eating the fruit. The farmer sees them and comes out with a shotgun. ‘Since you guys like fruit so much go pick 100 of which ever fruit you want,’ said the farmer.

The first guy decides to pick grapes. When he gets 100 he goes back to the farmer.

The farmer says,’now shove em' all up your ass.’

The guy gets all 100 up his ass. He feels really bad, but then he starts to laugh.
‘Why you laughing?’ asked the farmer.

To which the man replied, ‘My friend is out picking watermelons!’

UMNO-led BN is the cause for Sabah miseries, claims MP Tan Kok Wai

By Ezra Haganez
KOTA KINABALU:
DAP has singled out UMNO-led Barisan Nasional as the major cause for Sabah's miserable state of affairs including being reduced to become the poorest state in Malaysia, though sitting on the richest of resources.

DAP National Disciplinary Committee Chairman, Tan Kok Wai, said it is the corrupt nature in UMNO-led BN that had plundered Sabah's resources and misapproriated them away from its true target, the rakyat.

"47 years since 1963, Sabah has been under BN's rule, but only political parties and BN leaders have become rich, while the people of Sabah are the poorest in the country. Why? This is a shame," said Kok Wai while officiating the Party's one-day state convention here today.

A good read !.. Whatever you sow, that you shall reap...!

The man slowly looked up. This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat was new. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life. His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many others had done before.
"Leave me alone," he growled...
To his amazement, the woman continued standing. She was smiling -- her even white teeth displayed in dazzling rows. "Are you hungry?" she asked.
"No," he answered sarcastically. "I've just come from dining with the president. Now go away." The woman's smile became even broader.  Suddenly the man felt a gentle hand under his arm.
"What are you doing, lady?" the man asked angrily. "I said to leave me alone.
Just then a policeman came up. "Is there any problem, ma'am?" he asked..

HOLE IN THE RECTUM orang malaya

Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is a "hole in the rectum"....and I am being extremely polite, for his statement that "non-Malays shun a military career because they lacked patriotism". His sense of history and the contributions of the Chinese, Indians and our brothers from East Malaysia towards the sovereignty of Malaysia is being actively abrogated by him. That is a racist and bigoted view, pure and simple. Go here to look at the winners of valour awards, not including those who had laid down their lives, are maimed, not forgetting the Non Malay Police Officers. Use the drop down menu in the archives on the top right column.

Guess when the Chinese and Indians were bleeding and dying for this nation, he might just have been a "dirty glint in his father's eyes" or just "swimming in his father's cojones". I will not allow my emotions get to me by being vulgar talking about our Defence Minister who cannot construct a decent sentence in English, I will not dwell on that.

Jokes for the day

A man wanted to celebrate his wife's Birthday by throwing a party.
So he ordered a birthday cake on phone. The salesman asked him what message he wanted to put on the cake.

He thought for a moment and said, put
"getting older but you are getting better".

The salesman asked "how do you want me to put it?"

The man said 'Well...put
"You are getting older" at the top and
"but you are getting better" at the bottom.
When the cake was unveiled at the party all the guests were aghast at the message on the cake.

It read:
"You are getting older at the top, but you are getting better at the bottom"

 Moral of the Story:

1. Always proof-read everything before you send.

2. Don't trust others to write it right for you.

3. Don't order cakes by telephone.

Have a good day!!.

Discontinue the Teoh Beng Hock inquest - no one believes it

P Ramakrishnan

Teoh Beng Hock’s death has outraged the conscience of this nation. It is difficult to understand how his death could have taken place in a secure area without the knowledge of MACC officials who had complete control over the premises.

His death has distressed us and has raised many questions of propriety in the manner he was treated by the investigating personnel. He was on his feet working the whole of Wednesday, 15 July 2009, when he was taken in at 5.00pm for questioning.

His cruel grilling continued into the wee hours of the next morning until 3.45am the next day — nearly 11 hours after he had gone into the MACC building.

Why should he be subjected to this inhuman torture when he was taken in as a witness to help the MACC?

Foreward by N. Ganesan on “NOV 25 Hindraf Rally 2007” book by P. Uthayakumar

As political landscapes move they are always preceded by a change in the political discourse driving them. Old ways of looking at society and how it gets summed up into its politics have great inertia. These are entrenched into society by the power elite, who are the beneficiaries of the old system. Even as the old politics loses it moral basis, these forces of conservatism work to maintain status quo. These conservative forces keep trying harder and harder to maintain the status quo as the situation gets increasingly pregnant with the need for the new. New participants armed with ubiquity of information, new devices of communication, a new sense of the past and a new morality unleash great forces for change.

The new morality is sensed at the fringes, and against great resistance, work their way in to the centre. The story of that Great March to the centre is told here in first person narrative by Uthayakumar in the events leading up to the Grand Hindraf Rally of the 25th of November 2007. Even as this story is being told another unfolds within it. This story within the story is of how, issues that were considered taboos and sensitive for public discourse were breached, and how new ground was broken in the national discourse since.

Sabah now has the highest number of UMNO members, surpassing Johore, claims Musa

By Razlan Danial
KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah now has surpassed Johore in term of UMNO membership !

State UMNO liaison chief, Musa Aman, claimed Sabah now has 455,828 UMNO members, with about 30,000 new members enrolled this year alone.

"This we achieved through our endless effort via various programmes including the "Program Juara Rakyat" to further consolidate UMNO strength in Sabah," he disclosed after he chaired UMNO state liaison meeting at its headquarter here last night.

According to Musa, who is also Sabah Chief Minister, Sabah now has the highest UMNO members taking over from Johore which has about 438,000 members.

Jokes for the day

A 60 year old woman came home one day and heard strange noises in her bedroom. She opened the door and discovered her 40 year old daughter playing with a vibrator.

‘What are you doing?’ asked the mother.

‘Mom, I'm 40 years old and look at me. I'm ugly. I'll never get married, so this is pretty much my husband.’ The mother walked out of the room, shaking her head.

The next day, the father came home and heard noises in the bedroom and upon entering the room, found his daughter using the vibrator.

‘What the hell are you doing?’ he asked.

His daughter replied, ‘I already told Mom. I'm 40 years old now and ugly. I will never get married, so this is as close as I'll ever get to a husband.’ The father walked out of the room shaking his head.

The next day, the mother came home to find her husband with a beer in one hand and the vibrator in the other, watching a football game on TV.

‘What on earth are you doing?’ she cried.

The husband replied, ‘What does it look like I'm going? I'm having a beer and watching football with my son-in-law!’

A letter forwarded by Conrad Mojuntin to us...

Dear Mr. Conrad Mojuntin,

60 Catholics were brutally murdered while attending Mass in a Catholic Church in Bagdad, Iraq. They are glorious martyrs.

But 400,000 Catholics remain and are being persecuted for the faith. And we’re being asked to pray the Rosary to help them.

See this impassioned email I received from an Iraqi Catholic:

"I need help. I am Chaldean. We are Catholics from IRAQ who are persecuted for our faith". As you may have heard, the Muslim extremists bombed a Church in Baghdad, killing 2 priests and 58 believers.

"Is there anyway we can set up a rosary rally for Chaldeans? So all can join in? We need help. Please, I am begging you. I am begging you."

So please pray the Rosary on November 23rd for persecuted Catholics in Iraq. And tell everyone you know to please join in.

Spread this Rosary to your friends

On November 23rd, there will be a special Rosary Rally at the Mother of God Church in Southfield, Michigan. Please spread the word about this special Rosary to everyone you know.

P.S. -- Please remember: the Rosary saved Austria from Russian Communists. It can save Catholics in Iraq too. There used to be 1.5 million Catholics in Iraq, but only 400,000 remain. They urgently need our prayers!

Sabah UMNO leaders have supreme confidence in Musa now...

|

By Ezra Haganez
KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah UMNO leaders seem to have supreme confidence in Musa Aman as both the Chief Minister and the party state liaison chief.

They shot down any notation of a brewing dissension within the ranks, ahead of the 13th General Election which might be called by Prime Minister Najib Razak in the next six months or so.

Salleh Said, Musa's deputy liaison chief when texted if there was anthing big at last night UMNO liaison meeting in Kota Kinabalu, just said: "Tiadalah. Short meeting..." (nothing, it was a short meeting).

Well indeed at just over one hour it was a short meeting to be considered as having discussed or elaborated on any significant Sabah issue. Too short, that Musa was looking for the RTM crew, (who had gone out for coffee) when he was about to speak to the press after the meeting.

Jokes for the day

A blind man walks into a restaurant and sits down. The waiter, who is also the owner, walks up to the blind man and hands him a menu. ‘I'm sorry sir, but I am blind and can't read the menu. Just bring me a dirty fork from the previous customer, I'll smell it and order from there.’

A little confused, the owner walks over to the dirty dish pile and picks up a greasy fork. He returns to the blind man's table and hands it to him.

The blind man puts the fork to his nose and takes in a deep breath. ‘Ah, yes that's what I'll have, meatloaf and mashed potatoes.’ Unbelievable, the owner says to himself as he walks towards the kitchen.
The cook happens to be the owner's wife and he tells her what had just happened. The blind man eats his meal and leaves.

Several days later the blind man returns and the owner mistakenly brings him a menu again. ‘Sir, remember me? I'm the blind man.’
‘I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you. I'll go get you a dirty fork.’ The owner again retrieves a dirty fork and brings it to the blind man. After another deep breath, the blind man says, ‘That smells great, I'll take the Macaroni and cheese with broccoli.’

Once again walking away in disbelief, the owner thinks the blind man is screwing around with him and tells his wife that the next time the blind man comes in he's going to test him. The blind man eats and leaves.
He returns the following week, but this time the owner see's him coming and runs to the kitchen.

He tells his wife, ‘Mary rub this fork around your vagina before I take it to the blind man.’ Mary complies and hands her husband the fork back. As the blind man walks in and sits down, the owner is ready and waiting.
‘Good afternoon sir, this time I remembered you and I already have the fork ready for you.’

The blind man puts the fork to his nose, takes a deep whiff and says, ‘Hey I didn't know that Mary worked here?’

Jokes for the day

After the baby was born, the panicked Japanese father went to see the obstetrician. ‘Doctor,’ he said, ‘I don't mind telling you, but I'm a little upset because my daughter has red hair. She can't possibly be mine.’

‘Nonsense,’ the doctor said. ‘Even though you and your wife both have black hair, one of your ancestors may have contributed red hair to the gene pool.’

‘It isn't possible,’ the man insisted. ‘We're pure Asian.’

‘Well,’ said the doctor, ‘let me ask you this. How often do you have sex?’
The man seemed ashamed. ‘I've been working very hard for the past year. We only made love once or twice a month.’

‘There you have it!’ the doctor said confidently. ‘It's just rust.’

Jokes for the day: Catholic

Four Catholic men and a Catholic woman were having coffee.
The first Catholic man tells his friends, "My son is a priest, when he walks into a room, everyone calls him 'Father'."

The second Catholic man chirps, "My son is a Bishop. When he walks into a room people call him 'Your Grace'."
The third Catholic gent says, "My son is a Cardinal.. When he enters a room everyone says 'Your Eminence'."
The fourth Catholic man then says, "My son is the Pope. When he walks into a room people call him 'Your Holiness'."
Since the lone Catholic woman was sipping her coffee in silence, the four men give her a subtle, "Well....?"

She proudly replies, "I have a daughter, slim, tall, 38D breast, 24" waist and 34" hips. When she walks into a room, people say, "Oh My God."

Dr Jeffrey weighing his options, likely to ditch an Anwar-Azmin led-PKR

By Ezra Haganez
Kota Kinabalu, SABAH:
Outgoing PKR Vice President, Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, while reiterating he is still with the Party, said right now he and his group feel at a loss ever since Zaid Ibrahim has quit the party.

"We supported Zaid because he is a man of principle, and he supported the aspirations of Sabah and Sarawak.

"We wanted leaders at the apex of PKR who understand the need and aspirations of Sabah and Sarawak but he (Zaid) has quit now. We are at a loss," said maverick Jeffrey at his press conference in Kota Kinabalu today.

According to Jeffrey, unlike Zaid, it is unknown and unheard of if any of the other PKR top central leaders who "really" respect Sabah and Sarawak's rights as equal partners in the Federation of Malaysia.

This statement indicated the man's assessment of PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim himself, who many have wronged for what had been going on in the Party for the past few months.

More problems in party as PKR elections come to a close

PETALING JAYA: The month-long PKR elections came to a close with more chaos plaguing the party.
Fresh claims of irregularities are being bandied about and at least two branches have closed down with members quitting en bloc.

The polls for the party’s central leadership which began on Oct 29 have been marred by protests and resignations with many members, including deputy president aspirant Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, crying foul.
The latest developments are:

●       A key aide to party vice-president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan quit the party, dealing a blow to PKR in Sabah;
●       A shocking statistic was revealed – the Tanjung Piai pro-tem division is made up of only a single member;
●      A senior PKR leader says the party will focus on the coming general election rather than be embroiled in internal bickering.

No surprises in PKR’s final election results

PETALING JAYA: Gombak MP Azmin Ali has romped home in the race for the deputy presidency, garnering a majority of about 14,000 votes.

His sole challenger, Perak PKR chief Mustafa Kamil Ayub, is said to have obtained about 3,145 votes.
Party insiders said Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Batu MP Tian Chua and Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh are likely to have won three of the four vice-presidencies.

The last VP post is said to be a tussle between Penang PKR chief Dr Mansor Othman, Selangor executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar and Padang Serai MP N. Gobalakrishnan.

The official results are not expected to be announced until the PKR Congress scheduled to be held here over the weekend. Polling for central positions closed yesterday.

Another blow for Opposition as Jeffrey’s aide quits party

KOTA KINABALU: PKR was dealt another blow when a key aide to vice-president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan quit the party yesterday.

Philip Among, also known as Daniel Dell Fidelis, tendered his resignation to the party headquarters via email, sparking speculation of a mass exit soon by members aligned to Dr Jeffrey.

It is understood that many supporters were unhappy over the disciplinary action taken against 12 members before the party’s divisional elections despite a peace deal.

Among, however, declined to comment if others, including Dr Jeffrey, would leave the party with him.
The 41-year-old Among said he emailed his resignation to PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, party president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, de facto chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Dr Jeffrey.

Short view on the State Budget

Dear Editors,

Yr esteemed paper may use my view if it is useful to yr readership, TQ

"The State Budget for next year is a reflection of the political will of the State Government to spend more funds to alleviate the current condition Sabah and Sabahans are in, vis-a-vis the sluggish economy, less employment opportunities, and still lagging behind in infrastructures. We hope to see some good and creative initiatives to be taken by Chief Minister and his team. Again, delivery is very important..."

Saturday, 20 November 2010 Super Admin
Raja Petra Kamarudin
I just want to pen a short note to tell you that the draft Constitution of the Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MLCM) has just been finalised. MCLM’s lawyer has just sent it through to me and I am studying it now.
Later today I shall be fetching Haris Ibrahim from the tube station. He will be arriving about 5.00am this morning UK time. Haris and I will then go through the Constitution to make sure that it is in order before releasing it to the public.

Haris will be spending about a week with me here in the UK to go through the mission and vision of the MCLM. Basically, what we will focus on will be:

1. The MCLM will become a pressure group of civil society movement activists with a view to engage politicians, not to become politicians.

The Column That Wasn’t

By Marina Mahathir

Folks, I’m posting here what should have been my Musings column tomorrow.

The Star has refused to publish it because, after what happened to P. Gunasegaram’s article which was pulled out after the Home Ministry gave them a show-cause letter, they don’t want any ’sensitive’ articles that may jeopardise their KDN permit.

Now I’ve been writing for the Star for about 20 years now, believe it or not, and although it would be much easier and freer to just blog, I maintain my column because of the discipline and because of my many loyal readers who don’t necessarily read anything online. There have been other times when my column has been in danger of being censored (and very occasionally edited to sound gentler and nicer..) but still they came out when they were supposed to.

Karpal: I warned Anwar about Zaid

GEORGE TOWN: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had been warned about accepting Datuk Zaid Ibrahim into PKR after the latter quit Umno, said DAP chairman Karpal Singh.

“I had already told Anwar from the very beginning that the man (Zaid) could not be trusted as he quit Umno under a dark cloud and Anwar was taking a big chance by accepting him.

“How can one just want to take over the leadership of a party overnight? And when that was denied, Zaid openly attacked the man who threw him a lifeline in politics.

“Anwar was trying to guide Zaid to lead gracefully but there is no grace in this man,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Saying that he had known Zaid since he (Zaid) was a practising lawyer, Karpal claimed that everyone in the legal profession knew him well.

Family of slain 15-year old to lodge report against police on Sat

Siva - Shamil would have turned 16 on Sunday
Malaysia Chronicle

The family of a 15-year old Selangor boy shot dead along with two other youths will lodge a complaint against the police on Saturday in a bid to press Prime Minister Najib Razak into taking action against rising brutality in the Malaysian police force.

“Shamil would have turned 16 this Sunday but his life has been prematurely snuffed out. Malaysians must help his family to find out what really happened. We all need to do this for the sake of justice and also protect ourselves,” MP for Subang Sivarasa Rasiah told Malaysia Chronicle.

"It could happen to any of us or our loved ones if we do not do something now to stop the police from killing under the guise of taking action or acting in self-defense. Suspicious deaths have been occurring too frequently and the Najib administration owes us all an explanation. We hope the PM will not help the police cover up instead."

Jeffrey starts survey of political options

By Joe Fernandez
KOTA KINABALU: Outgoing PKR vice-president Jeffrey Kitingan, who is on two months’ leave from the party, last night initiated a survey on political options available to Sabahans.

He distributed a 10-point questionnaire after meeting more than 60 key Sabah PKR leaders at the Borneo Heritage Foundation (BHF) here. No deadline was set for the survey forms to be returned to the organizing committee, which is based at the BHF, an NGO headed by the Sabah strongman.

The final tally of survey forms to be collected is not known. It has been estimated that the Dusun alone form 8% of PKR’s estimated 400,000 members.

The questionnaire was prepared by Jeffrey’s Common Interest Group Malaysia (CigMA). The last question asks respondents to suggest what should be done to win over voters in the next general election.

Sng keeps mum over his status

KUCHING: Partyless Pelagus assemblyman Larry Sng, who is uncertain about his fate in the coming state election, is still tight-lipped over his current status.

Sng, who is also state Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Office, said it was better for him not to comment if his frequent visits back to his constituency was part of his preparation for the coming polls, which must be held by July next year.

"It's difficult to say or not to say (on contesting)," he told reporters when asked to comment on his status after launching the Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI) Asia-Pacific Regional Office, here, today.

Last week, Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) president George Chan confirmed that Sng was not among the 19 potential SUPP candidates identified for the state polls.

Zaid to quit on Dec 16 in mockery of Sept 16

By Syed Jaymal Zahiid
VIDEO INSIDE PETALING JAYA: PKR maverick Zaid Ibrahim will officially quit his party on Dec 16, in a move to mock the failed Sept 16 "coup" engineered by supremo Anwar Ibrahim.
The resignation letter effective on the stated date was submitted to the party headquarters this morning.

"If Anwar loves Sept 16, I, on the other hand, love Dec 16," Zaid said in jest to a packed press conference at his house here.
He said the formation of a new party was also in the pipeline, but this would depend on the support he would receive after he formally quit PKR.

The former law minister is quitting from the party after a disastrous fallout with PKR's top leadership.
Zaid, once hailed as a possible successor to Anwar, claimed irregularities in the ongoing party polls where he had contested for the deputy president's post against vice-president Azmin Ali, who is said to be favoured by Anwar.

Najib may call for only parliamentary polls

By Teoh El Sen
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will call for only a parliamentary snap election instead of holding the state polls simultaneously, predicted DAP strategist Liew Chin Tong.

According to Liew, this first of its kind move is to ensure that Barisan Nasional scores a “handsome win” in the general election.

"I think he will separate it and only call for parliamentary election and not dissolve state assemblies... and I believe this is due to the current dynamics of Umno's internal politics," he said.

Liew claimed that Najib was planning to remove several menteris besar in BN-ruled states whose tenures were "long overdue" and simultaneous federal and state elections could ruin that plan.

MP Pua digs up more 'dirt' on government contracts

Christine Chan
Parliamentarian Tony Pua today revealed further cases of highly questionable government contracts published on the newly-launched MyProcurement portal.

He called on the authorities to investigate four contracts which were awarded by the Education Ministry, the Royal Malaysian Police and the Defence Ministry.

azlanPua (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara) yesterday raised the issue of a RM77 million contract to build a hostel for 200 students at a school in Terengganu. It turned out that the figure as reported in the website was a mistake and has since been corrected to RM7.8 million.

However, a check on Rafa Sepakat Sdn Bhd - the company awarded the project - shows that it was the beneficiary of RM53.4 million worth of contracts in the last six months.

P Ramlee: A tale of tragedy and one of bertrayal ...

P Ramlee: A tragedy that no Talent Corp could have saved

Question: Di Mana Kan Ku Cari Ganti?
Answer: Not in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA: Those who watched the heart wrenching P Ramlee documentary on the History Channel on Oct 31, 2010 must have gone to bed with a heavy heart.
It transpired that Malaysia's one and only film icon had died penniless and shunned by the public, including his own colleagues.

And the way it was done appears to have uncanny resemblances to what's happening today in Malaysia, almost 45 years after Ramlee returned to Malaysia.

The documentary, narrated by British actor, Timothy Watson and was 12 years in the making included precious interviews by some of his friends, actors and actresses who had passed on. The underlying tone was one of profound melancholy.

Ramlee, borne out of poverty along Caunter Hall Road at an Achenese community in Penang , had to endure the brutal Japanese occupation whose schools incidentally inculcated a certain discipline in him.
In his formative years then, this discipline proved crucial as a founding platform for his eventual brilliance, creativity and innovation in film and music.

Explained... Why some Malays call Chinese "pigi mampus"...

Cina Pergi Mampus!

By Hussein Abdul Hamid

Editor : Only right-thinking people should read this...

Do you Chinese know that we Malays do not say that a Chinese has died? No we have this term we use – “Cina Mampus” [gone to HELL?]….I really cannot think of an English equivalent that would do justice to the venom and contempt that the phrase intends to conveys! But for me personally that phrase has not been used or even thought of for a long long time.

It came back to me just now when I was trying to find a way to make the Chinese understand the depth of hatred that some Malays still do have for you infidels and pork eating people who dare to call Malaysia their home! And so my friend you need to take this in the context that I am trying to frame it. Racial harmony is not an easy thing. Racial harmony will not come naturally for a number of Malays. And of course for some Malays they need racial harmony like they need a hole in their head!

Disturbing trend in Umno

By Ruzaini Fikri
Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA: The end of the 61st Umno general assembly on Oct 24, 2010 left a mark on the party, the largest in the Barisan Nasional and the core of the ruling coalition. Much has been discussed – education, economy, race and the Constitution – in order to show Umno as being involved in discussing the issue of nation-building.

However, what is most noticeable in Umno is the disturbing trend that is actually weakening the party: the process of its radical Islamisation and Arabisation.

True, this process began 30 years ago and its fruits seen in ensuing years, with the case mounted on the Catholic Church for its use of the term "Allah" (which it had used in Bahasa Malaysia for a long time). However, the recent assembly has marked such a disturbing trend of moralising and pontificating by delegates and speakers, that one would confuse it for a religious conference.

TANAH MELAYU FORMERLY NAMED "BARR CHIN" or Tanah China ?

By Michael Chick
Michael Chick goes back to old Arabic maps to find that Tanah Melayu was actually called Barr Chin or Tanah China . So who is the Pendatang?
Even our famous Professor of History does not know this as he only refers to English texts. A shame, isn't it?
We hear UMNO's cries for “Brain Gain”, caused by excruciating “Brain Drain”, in the wake of hundreds of thousands of Malaysians who are fleeing their country. We've heard the many alleged reasons provided from both sides of the fence. One of the strongest seems to be the fact that UMNO is asking all “pendatangs” to leave the country if they are not happy.
By Michael Chick
Well, Robert Kwok certainly did just that. And along with him, his entire businesses worth billions in “Tax Drain”. BTN has also been copiously assisting, by enthusiastically brainwashing simple minds into thinking that “Tanah Melayu” is reserved for Orang Melayu. Of course, they quickly tell you that anyone can become an Orang Melayu by speaking, dressing, and behaving like one (what! ever that means, who knows?).
Well, UMNO managed to achieve one thing. The BTN-type morons, and their predecessors, have been overwhelmingly successful in brainwashing todays' 27 million citizens. Who says that the Peninsular was ALWAYS called “Tanah Melayu”? This is a recent British Term!! Let me dedicate this Article to the foremost “so-called reknown Historian” of the country. Prof Dr Emeritus Khoo Khay Khim (and anyone else who claims to be as competent in History as well).

Who retards the muslims in Malaysia ? Realistically, better ban everything

Malaya then(not Malaysia) was and is the land of the Orang Asli. It's stupidity and their low mentality to talk too much!!!

This is a MUST READ .... it is so sad that this article comes from a Malay gentleman .....a true Malaysian he is !!!  ..... it must have been hard for him to write this ..... one can feel the anger and frustration inside him ....
Subject: Realistically !!!! Ban Everything !
By Capt. Iskandar Dzulkarnain
I am utterly dismayed that Islam, such a Great Religion, is being constantly ridiculed, not only by Non Muslims, but even by our younger generation of Malays. We keep on saying that we will protect the Good name of Islam with our lives, but we fail to see that our radical approach has smeared the good name of our Religion. Nowadays, Muslim does not even try to hold a topic over religion with our Non Muslim counterparts. We really have no rational answers as to why our Religion is so hypocritically abused by some half baked Malays.
Perkasa wants to have the Syariah laws amended to disallow Non Muslims to enter Mosques and Suraus. They also want the MCA president and the DAP assemblywoman to be placed under ISA for desecrating Islam. In fact, they want every Tom, Dick and Harry to go in. The video on Surau AL Falah is an eye opener to the amount of desecration tolerated. Sack the Surau committee and place them all, including the rest of the participants under ISA. Another picture apparently doctored, should be allowed the benefit of the doubt.

Datuk Zaid Ibrahim quit PKR

The Star Online
PETALING JAYA: Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has decided to quit PKR, saying he has had enough of recent turn of events in the party.

“I knew my days in the party were numbered because the leaders were relentlessly making personal attacks against me.

“I am quitting because I want to dissociate myself from liars and cheats. I do not want to be part of a group that propagates lies and does not have any qualms about cheating for as long as the end justifies the means,’’ he told The Star.

Nazri orders Jakim to probe Sarawak native's creed? Does he know what he is doing ?

Malayan Idiot Playing Role of GOD
"The government has asked the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to investigate the religious status of Beginda Anak Minda, also known as Noor Azman Abdullah," said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz. He said only after this was done, could investigations proceed into the caning of his son in a school in Kuching for bringing fried rice with pork sausages into the school’s premises. " -The Malaysian Insider

By Anonymous
Kuching, SARAWAK: Firstly, I've no intention whatsoever to stir up further the current 'temperature'.  But, I would like to raise issues from the legal point of view.  Remember the phrase in 18/20 point of Malaysia Agreement goes something like this 'there is no official religion in Sarawak' which we safely categorise it as secular state.  Hence, Jakim has no right to investige Mr Beginda's religious status since Beginda is Sarawakian.
If there is any attempt to lawfully investigate Mr. Beginda, only State Islamic Affairs Council for Sarawak has the jurisdiction to do so.  If Jakim dares to tickle Mr. Beginda even a muscle in Sarawak,  that would be constitutionally deemed as an act against the Agong aka the highest level of treachery.  Yang Di-Pertuan Agong is the Head of Islam in four states ruled without Sultans namely Penang, Malacca , Sabah and Sarawak;  3 Federal territories, Labuan, Putrajaya and KL as well as in his own state, Terengganu. In this role, he is advised by the State Islamic Affairs Council in each of the States. (for futher clarification refer duties of Yang Di-Pertuan Agong in the Federal Constitution)!

Majority Should Be Considerate...

Conversion is so very sensitive in this country, yet during the week when Hindus are celebrating the auspicious festival of Deepavali, the message from our national film production development board, FINAS, is an advertisement glamourising a Hindu who converted to Islam ... showing the Muslim wife of a Hindu convert not wanting to eat food at the table of her non-Muslim in-laws. What exactly is the meaning of this advertisement here, if not to belittle the Hindus?

By Datuk A.Vaithilingam
Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA: Recent actions or utterences by politicians and public servants belonging to a section of the majority community in this country of ours have been most insensitive, hurting the feelings of the minority. Can it be thoughtlessness or is it a feeling of superiority by some who feel they are above the law?
We already know of cases when some members of the teaching profession lost their cool and made racial and slanderous remarks to belittle our young and taint their young minds. I suppose not punishing these professionals (who, legally, seemed to have infringed the Sedition Act) has resulted in others of the same profession continuing to taunt minorities!

Civil servants who continue to slander other Malaysians, especially from minority ethnic groups, only face the sanction of being 'investigated' with some minor internal transfers. The negligence by the Government leadership to take decisive action to give clear signals that such insensitive actions are unacceptable, has created a perception that slander of this nature is condoned, thus giving freedom to other civil servants to go ahead with remarks against the defenceless.

Pope writes Ahmadinejad of Catholics' plight

VATICAN CITY – Pope Benedict XVI has told Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of the discrimination and violence Catholics suffer in the Middle East and said he hopes relations between the local Catholic Church and authorities can improve.

The Vatican released the text of a letter Benedict wrote to Ahmadinejad after receiving a letter from the Iranian leader last month. Ahmadinejad had thanked the pontiff for opposing a Florida pastor's threat to burn the Quran on the Sept. 11 anniversary.

In his letter, dated Nov. 3 but released only Thursday, Benedict noted that a recent meeting of Mideast bishops had decried the discrimination many Catholics face in the region. He said he hoped a bilateral commission would help address the legal status of the Catholic Church in Iran.

A letter from an Orang Ulu in Sarawak...

My Brothers & Sisters,

By Burak Sem
Bintulu, SARAWAK: I am now on my 'time-off', back to my second home, Bintulu with my family for about two months. In fact, I am already recovered from 'jet-lag' two days ago, and nevertheless, not forgetting of the delays in my emails, which have have fallen behind for almost 9 days.

It's great to be home again, with the weather, foods, friends, relatives, culture and driving on the left side of the road. I am planning to go back to my kampung in Telang Usan in couple of days and hope to catch up with the situations and get myself to well prepared for the upcoming state election.

Disgustingly, the Sarawak political system, from other countries has been tagged to be corrupt, hopelessness, vague and primitive since 29 years under the Barisan National government.
Political system in this state of Sarawak is obviously unhealthy and people's rights are abused single-handedly by 'one evil man'. Social justice seems to be a far away dream. And the observance of the law seems ruthless.
It is a sad fact that Sarawak, although it has abundance in natural resources, vast area of lands, mighty rivers that could have placed abreast amount the world's richest countries have remained cellar dweller as among the poorest.

These Malayan clowns just know what to croon...

Patriots who react: 1,347 reminders for Zahid Hamidi

Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA: At times you should take offence. Like when your defence minister says maybe why you are not in the military is because your ethnicity makes you lack patriotism. So I’ll take offence, and I’ll ask for an apology.

Since his major misstep two days ago, Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi has tried to wriggle out of the growing perception he does not think non-Malays are patriotic enough.

A politician lives by perception and when he finds it worthwhile to point out “low patriotism” may be a factor for negligible military recruitment of non-Malays, irrespective of its impact, he has blundered.

More so when this is your defence minister, the man expected to lead the defence of the country by galvanising the spirit of its people to the defence of the “tanah air.”

More telling when you are the Umno vice-president with the highest number of votes, technically you are the third-ranking Umno leader, and the second in line to succeed the prime minister if Barisan Nasional (BN) stays in power.

Relevant pictures of some of Taib Mahmud's alleged "ill-gotten" properties..

Just the tip of a "Bigger than you can imagine" iceberg!

Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA: WHAT'S NEW? IT COMES AS NO SURPRISE...greed & easy wealth is a Malaysian lifesyle. 30 years of theft but nothing is done. It only points to one very obvious consequence..WE are all DOOMED! Malaysia Boleh!
My class mate from my high school days forwarded this article. He copied to the whole Malaysian opposition party leaders as well as to Berita Harian, Readers Digest and others. With internet today, you can run but cannot hide. Even if you manage to, where can one hide from God. I wonder if he sleeps well every night with the knowledge that the poorest of poor is from his state where he ripped off the natural wealth of the state for his personal gain.

I'm so proud to be a Malaysian......just look at this....TAIB has made us proud....
Squandered the Country's wealth..-Stole Money from the Rakyat...and made it real big overseas.

Frustrated PBS yet again cries foul over power sharing and illegal immigrants

By Ezra Haganez
Penampang, SABAH:
Eight years after rejoining Barisan Nasional (BN) in 2002, today Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) at its 25th annual general meeting here yet registered its dissatisfaction on two things in BN : Unfair power-sharing, and the presence of illegal immigrants in the state.

PBS passed the two resolutions calling on the BN state leadership to come up with a fairer power-sharing formula, and to quickly resolve the perennial problems of a large presence of illegal immigrants by 2012.

This two isues had been a must topic at PBS previous AGMs, either as motion/resolution or points of discussion while debating other motions.

Today, PBS Vice Presidents, Datuk Herbert Timbon Lagadan, and Datuk Radin Malleh, read the respective motions, prepared by the party's supreme council. They were not a motion from the floor, rather from the supreme council, as explaind by Lagadan.

This, give credence to talks that PBS is far from satisfied with how Sabah is run by the UMNO-led BN coalition in the state.

Another Eye-Opening Article By A Young Malaysian

JULY 25 — I was not planning to write about Malay unity this week, but after a little talk I just had with my father, I've decided it's imperative to underscore yet again the very real effect so-called 'Malay unity' has on Malaysian society.

Malay unity as it is presently understood is fundamentally undemocratic, and fundamentally a threat to Malaysian unity.
The notion that it is not just okay but morally right to prefer one Malaysian over another because of his or her racial identity undermines everything that the concept of a Malaysian stands for; it justifies racism, communalism and separatism.

In the first place, I cannot see why anyone would believe that the Malay community or Malays as individuals stand to gain from uniting behind one political party or one ideology.
Malays are not a single-minded, homogeneous lot, any more than the Chinese or Indians are. To ask a Malay to subjugate his own individual beliefs to the tyranny of the Malay majority is ridiculous, and completely undermines the democratic right of individual Malaysians, Malay or not, to freedom of thought and expression.

Of Zaid, Anwar and Politics...

COMMENTS : It's not necessary that we must win when we stand for elections. It's a bit like Air Asia offering zero airfare or America buying even more from China while complaining about the yuan.
If u want to win, u must take a certain stand. Zaid did not do that because it's not a win that was important to him. It's petty to think in terms of winning all the time. U can even win by losing.

Those who are wrapped up in their own personal success will not bother about the larger concerns of the people and make poor leaders as they will not be able to inspire others.

Zaid needed the platform to highlight certain issues. I think that he has done that very brilliantly although initially many people thought that he was talking nonsense. Having done so, he pulled out from the race at the right moment to drive home the points that he has been making. Zaid is right. PKR should look beyond Anwar.

Was Merdeka taken or was it given?

The British wanted to deal only with the Alliance Party because most of its leaders were educated in England and had demonstrated not only pro-British tendencies but were also more English than the Englishman in their ways, lifestyle and mentality.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER
Raja Petra Kamarudin
History is always written by the victors, not by the vanquished. That is a very old line, which most already know by now. History is also an interpretation of facts. Of course, one can never change facts because facts are facts. But how you interpret them will depend on many things, your biasness and prejudices included.

Sometimes we are made the victim of propaganda and ‘perception management’. This is not a new phenomenon. The British, in fact, have been using this art from way back, including the art of divide and rule -- which has proven very effective, especially when they needed 10,000 Englishmen to lord over millions of ‘natives.’ How else can 10,000 control 10 million if not through divide and rule?

The propaganda or perception is that Umno ‘fought’ for independence or Merdeka. This is what the new breed of Malaysian history books tells us.

From way back I have always said that this is not true. Umno never ‘fought’ for Merdeka. Umno never ‘took’ Merdeka. Merdeka was handed to Umno on a silver platter because the British could no longer afford the financial cost and loss of lives and assets in their war (called The Emergency) against the Communist Terrorists (CTs) of the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM).

RM2,226,000.00 was spent to register only 161,148 new voters in 2009; what is the KPI of the EC?

By Teo Nie Ching, Serdang MP

Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA: According to the statistics provided by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dato’ Seri Mohamad Nazri Aziz, there are currently 11,381,193 registered voters and 4,304,620 unregistered voters in Malaysia.

The figure of unregistered voters in Malaysia is alarming. Many BN leaders have indicated that the 13th General Election might take place early next year, and if it is so, that means 27.4% of Malaysians who are above the age of 21 do not have the right to decide who they would like to lead them, as well as have no say in who forms the next government.

Extra Marital Affairs

The 1st Affair:

A married man was having an affair with his secretary.
One day they went her place and made love all afternoon. Exhausted, they fell asleep and woke up at 8 PM.

The man hurriedly dressed and told his lover to take his shoes outside and rub them in the grass and dirt.
He put on his shoes and drove home.

"Where have you been?" his wife demanded.
"I can't lie to you," he replied, "I'm having an affair with my secretary. We had sex all afternoon."

"You lying bastard!
You've been playing golf!"

The many roots of Malays leave delegates in stitches

Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA: (The Star) - Light exchanges over the origins of Malay and whether Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, who is of Turkish descent, could be regarded as Malay, had the delegates in stitches yesterday.
Fellow vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal had the floor in stitches earlier when he said that party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak didn’t include the Turks when defining the Malays in the country during his presidential address.
Hishammuddin said that even Shafie, whom he called “the pirate of Semporna”, had eloquently presented his speech in Malay, complete with poetry. Shafie is of Bajau descent.
Hishammuddin took the joke further by labeling Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as Jawa Bagan Datuk, Malacca chief minister Datuk Seri Ali Rustam as Bengali Malay, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Zambri Abdul Kadir as mamak Malay, Datuk Seri Musa Aman as Malay-Pakistan-Dusun. To this, a delegate retorted he is a three-in-one Malay.

Now Sabah PKR Liaison Secretary quits Party... Cites unhealthy and unabated politickings in PKR as reason

By Razlan Danial
Kota Kinabalu, SABAH:
Sabah PKR State Liaison Secretary, Mursalim Tanjul, who is also the Party's divisional head for Kudat, has announced he is quitting PKR with immediate effect.

He cited dirty politickings within PKR as the main reason for his quitting.
Mursalim successfully retained his post as Kudat divisional head in the recent party polls.

He was the one who hit the headlines in local newspapers recently for being shoved and punched at Sandakan Airport by 30 supporters of PKR Batu Sapi divisional head Hassnar Ebrahim.

Open Letter from Haris Ibrahim to Najib Razak the PM

by  Haris Ibrahim
(Haris Ibrahim is a trained lawyer)
Read Here: Reposted from "People's Parliament" Blog

Dear Najib,
Salamunalaika.
A Malaysiakini report entitled
'This is an Islamic state : Najib' reports that YOU made the following statements:
"Malaysia is an Islamic state and not a secular one. Islam is the official religion and we are an Islamic state. We have NEVER been secular…"
Like you, I too believe in Islam.

And like me, I am sure that YOU know full well that God commands the truth and nothing but the truth.

I am therefore first obliged to ask IF YOU DID INDEED make these claims?

If so, let me state categorically that YOUR claims are UNTRUE.

THIS IS THE TRUTH as I discern from the materials that abound.

YOUR late father,
according to history, was part of the 1956 delegation that went to London to secure our independence.

Truly, this nation is indebted to YOUR late father, the late Tunku and every freedom fighter of the era for securing independence for our nation. And a SECULAR Federal Constitution.

Yes, SECULAR.

Have YOU not read the Reid Commission report, that document that bears testimony to the selfless work of our leaders of days gone by?
