The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will study a complaint concerning an alleged insult on Sabah by a Facebook user.
The commission told Actionline that if called for it would take appropriate action under the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
The commission was responding to the alleged insult by a Facebook account holder with an ID name ‘Luca Lucas’ who claims to be from Johor Bahru. His entries apparently had caused widespread anger among Facebook users from the State.A complainant had recently brought the matter to Actionline saying what ‘Luca Lucas’ had done was unacceptable.
“He went too far as hurting the feelings of Sabahans,” he said, adding that his negative entries had prompted other users to create an anti-Luca Lucas account in protest.
He said he was aware of an individual’s right to freedom of speech but insisted that remarks or opinions should be made in consideration of other people’s feelings.
“The freedom does not mean a freedom to insult others,” he argued.
He called on the authorities to take action against ‘Luca Lucas’ and reveal his or her identity.
